How it works
Replaces pancreatic lipase, amylase, and protease. Essential for nutrient absorption in pancreatic insufficiency.
PERT adherence is foundational for weight + function. TGA/FDA dose: start ~500 lipase units/kg/meal, titrate to response; max 2 500 units/kg/meal or 10 000 units/kg/day. Emphasise: EVERY meal and snack.

Schedule

Side Effects
- Fibrosing colonopathy (rare, with very high doses >25 000 units/kg/day)
Monitoring
- Stool consistency, bloating, gas — signs of under-replacement
- Weight trends — malabsorption if failing to maintain weight
